Description:

The Morgan Library & Museum invites applications for the position of Collection Systems Specialist. Reporting to the Network Administrator in Management Information Systems, the Collection Systems Specialist is responsible for the optimum operation and development of the Morgan's ecosystem of databases supporting collection information, collection management, collection imaging, and the dissemination of collection data. Day-to-date responsibilities will also include documenting system administration processes, custom configurations, workflows and processes, and training super-users for each system.

Responsibilities:

· Manage the Morgan's core collection systems, including: The Museum System (TMS), its related application Conservation Studio (implementation in process), Voyager ILS, and ResourceSpace DAMs

· Manage the Morgan's core collection database custom solutions (e.g. an Access-based Imaging & Rights Database and its Photo Studio extension); conceptualize and implement long-term strategies for data management

· Manage the Morgan's ancillary custom collection management solutions (e.g. reader tracking, call slip and label printing, offsite storage management, etc.) with an eye to moving them to updated platforms as needed

· Design and maintain custom reports for each system and across systems in order to meet user needs and supply institutional statistics (e.g. Crystal Reports, SSRS, SQL queries, dashboards, etc.); field and respond to user feedback on these reports

· Model, implement, and manage data processes and integrations among the collection systems, including timed data refreshes; spearhead movement towards improved interoperability between the various collection systems

· Write and maintain custom code to support the extraction and transformation of collection data to other platforms (e.g. website, union catalogs, specialized portals, etc.)

· Contribute to strategic planning as it regards to system upgrades, migration, and integration

· Advise on integration approaches to other types of data (ie. CRM)

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science preferred
  • Minimum three years of experience managing cultural heritage databases preferred
  • Database administrator experience with MS SQL server required
  • Knowledge of working with packages in SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), SSIS/SSDT preferred
  • Proficiency in writing SQL statements required
  • Familiarity with Crystal Report and SQL Server Reporting Service (SSRS) preferred
  • Knowledge of one or more high-level programming languages required; additionally, familiarity with Visual Basic (VB) preferred
  • Understanding of metadata standards, data models, and data encoding related to cultural heritage information, such as JSON, MARC, MARCXML, EAD, IIIF, RDF/Linked Data preferred
  • Diplomatic and clear verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organization skills to effectively manage multiple projects
  • Ability to establish excellent working relationships with stakeholders and end users
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs. of computer equipment. Able to climb, kneel, and crawl through narrow spaces for hardware installs and network cabling.
