Position Summary: Computer Science/STEM Teacher is responsible for providing instruction on a wide range of computer science courses, including an introductory survey course, introductory Javascript, and Code.org or similar curriculum to meet Illinois Computer Science standards. Computer Science/STEM Teacher is responsible for providing instruction on a variety of Robotics topics that support FIRST Illinois Robotics or similar curriculum to meet Illinois Robotics standards. The Technical Support Representative will provide technical assistance and answers to users’ questions, assisting users by troubleshooting problems with computer hardware or software. Schedule : 8:00am to 4:30pm, Computer Science Teacher/Technical Support Representative is a school year (ten-month) full-time position. Computer Science Teacher Responsibilities Instruct students on Python, Javascript, and other relevant technologies with a project-oriented approach. Instruct students on how computers work, including the basic science and mathematics behind their operation and the hardware and the software built on those foundations. Teach how to design, write, and debug computer programs, algorithms, games, and apps. Keep records of grades, grade papers, and perform other administrative duties as needed. Create projects designed to enhance classroom activities. Read and s Stay abreast of current topics in computer science. Create lesson plans that integrate competencies, goals, and objectives into lesson plans. Utilize various curriculum resources. Utilize curricula that reflect the diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds of the students served. Utilize professional development opportunities to increase computer science knowledge and pedagogical skills. Work with the administration and technology team to ensure initiatives are being met. Robotics Teacher Responsibilities Instruct students on mechanics, electronics, autonomous robots, introductory programming, and other relevant technologies with a project-oriented approach. Manage and instruct students on current technology present in the Maker Space, such the 3D printer, the X-Carve, and laser cutter. Maintain strict safety standards relating to machinery and tools present in the Maker Space. Keep records of grades, grade papers, and perform other administrative duties as needed. Create projects designed to enhance classroom activities. Read and s Stay abreast of current topics in computer science. Technical Support Representative Responsibilities Identifies, investigates, and resolves users’ problems with computer software and hardware. Fields support calls, chat, email, and/or other communication from users with inquiries regarding software programming, connectivity, printing, and similar concerns. Consults with users to determine steps and procedures taken to identify and resolve the ˜problem. Coordinates and assigns work projects such as converting new computer hardware or software. Evaluates expanding or enhanced computer operations; makes recommendations for improvement and upgrades to hardware and software to manage workload and system requirements. Applies knowledge of computer software, hardware, and procedures to solve problems. Guides users through diagnostic and troubleshooting processes, which may include use of diagnostic tools and software and/or following verbal instructions. Collaborates with other staff to research and resolve problems. Provides technical support identifying, investigating, and resolving users problems with computer software and hardware for problems. Collaborates with programmers to explain errors and/or recommend modifications in programs. Arranges service by software or hardware vendors to repair or replace defective products. Maintains knowledge of technology innovations and trends. Maintains a ticket system and records of ticket status. Performs other related duties as assigned. Required Skills/Abilities: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. Professional and pleasant manner. Ability to explain technical issues to technical and nontechnical employees and customers. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software. Proficient with or the ability to quickly learn an array of computer hardware and software. Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related STEM field preferred. At least three years of experience in technical support highly preferred. Physical Requirements: Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
