Construction Trades Special Instructor (Teacher Assistant) Job Description: The Teacher is our most important resource. Their duties are to ensure that a student receives quality instruction, makes educational progress, and reaches their academic goals. Teachers are primarily responsible for delivering our educational program. This position is primarily responsible for delivering our educational program to ensure data driven, results-based instruction for students in the implementation of the CTE program. The CTE Construction Trades program is designed to provide entry/mid-level skills, training and employment preparation for students interested in the construction trades.
Education and Experience: - High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- At least 3 years of construction Industry experience required.
Essential Functions include, but are not limited to the following: - Assist with the facilitation and instruction of the CTE Construction Trades courses.
- Assist with the recruitment of prospective students and promotion the CTC program.
- Assist with the support and coordination of partnerships with area colleges/universities and trade unions to ensure student access to post-secondary credits.
- Assist with the creation of relationships with local businesses and contractors for apprenticeship and entry level employment.
- Assist with research and develop program curriculum, material, and schedules.
- Assist with the creation of lesson plans and activities for expected learning outcomes.
- Assist with the evaluation of student progress based on State Standards, learning objectives and projected outcomes.
- Assist with tracking student attendance and grades.
- Determine student proficiency, report and track student progress that assists in preparing students for certifications and a career in construction.
- Develops innovative techniques and training methods to increase learning outcomes for students.
- Follow procedures for safe storing and integrity of all public and confidential school records.
- Display the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with students, parents, and school personnel.
- Provides ongoing communication with students, regarding attendance, grades and other issues that may hinder program completion.
- Establishes and maintains open lines of communication with students, colleagues, and parents concerning both academic and behavioral progress of students.
- Contacts student when absent by text, email and/or phone to improve attendance and retention.
- Attends meetings and trainings as required by Chandler Park Academy and Michigan state CTE requirements
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: - Strong construction industry knowledge.
- Knowledge of general learning theories and curriculum development.
- Ability to instruct and delegate responsibilities to students.
- Ability to work independently and within a team, to work efficiently, exercising reasonable judgment, in a fast-paced, multi-task environment with minimal guidance and/or supervision.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure, demonstrate problem-solving and conflict resolution skills, while maintaining diplomacy, courtesy, professionalism, and a customer service attitude.
- Ability to change direction as priorities shift and thrive in environments that require the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal relationship, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to travel as needed.
