SALARY : Pursuant to WV Code §18A-4-8a, in accordance with Kanawha County Salary Scale, Pay Grade C commensurate with experience and education level.



EVALUATION: Performance in this position will be evaluated annually by the immediate supervisor and in accordance with WV State Code §18A-2-12, WV State Board Policy 5314, and KCS's Guide to Performance Evaluation for Service Personnel.



JOB SUMMARY: Employed as helpers to skilled maintenance employees, performs maintenance tasks promptly and efficiently as directed by the Supervisor.



PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Additional duties may be assigned.
  • Aids in maintenance, repair and construction of equipment and buildings.
  • Aids in maintenance and care of grounds.
  • May be called upon to drive a truck.
  • Aids electricians, plumbers, carpenters, roofers, painters, welders and other maintenance workers as assigned.
  • Maintains regular attendance.
  • Maintains a neat and orderly work area.
  • Complies with KCS Policies.
  • Complete necessary training and in-service as required by KCS.
  • Receives permission from building principal/supervisor to work in excess of 40 hours per week.
  • Attends in-services and workshops as directed.
  • Follows all safety rules and regulations and uses prescribed personal protective equipment.
  • Maintains confidentiality.
  • Continuously improves processes.


QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma or equivalent, pursuant to WV Code §18A-2-5; Criminal background check conducted pursuant to WV Code §18-5-15c; Meet the definition of "Qualifications" in WV Code §18A-4-8b; demonstrated competency, pursuant to WV Code §18A-4-8e (state-approved competency test) as required.

COUNTY-WIDE CUSTODIAN:



POSITION: Custodian I, III, IV



IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Building Principal; Facility Supervisor



FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt



EMPLOYMENT TERM: Unless specifically designated otherwise, Custodians I are employed for 215 days per school year and Custodians III and IV are employed for 261 days per school year. Extended or alternative employment terms in excess of the 200 day minimum may be established by KCS.



SALARY : Pursuant to WV Code §18A-4-8a, in accordance with Kanawha County Salary Scale, Pay Grade A, C, or D commensurate with experience and education level.



EVALUATION: Performance in this position will be evaluated annually by the building principal/immediate supervisor and in accordance with WV State Code §18A-2-12, WV State Board Policy 5314, and KCS's Guide to Performance Evaluation for Service Personnel.



JOB SUMMARY: The custodian maintains the county buildings in such a state of operating excellence that they present no problems or interruptions to the educational program. The custodian performs assigned custodial duties and repairs and receives supervision from the building administrator, and if applicable, the head custodian.



PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Additional duties may be assigned.
  • Maintains regular attendance.
  • Cleans and keeps buildings and grounds free of refuse.
  • Cleans classrooms, offices, libraries, restrooms and common areas including but not limited to chalkboards, dusting, emptying trash receptacles, vacuuming and washing windows.
  • Scrubs, mops, disinfects and polishes hard-surfaced floors in restrooms, cafeteria, hallways, classrooms, etc., as required.
  • Immediately reports any vandalism or other school property to his/her supervisor.
  • Assumes responsibility for the security of the building regarding all doors and windows locked and lights turned off as needed before leaving the building for the night.
  • Maintains an inventory of supplies and equipment and informs the head custodian of needs in advance so as not to hinder the continued performance of the building custodial duties.
  • Maintains a neat and orderly work area.
  • Complies with KCS Policies.
  • Moves furniture and equipment and assists in special events or presentations.
  • Receives permission from building principal/supervisor to work in excess of 40 hours per week.
  • Custodian III operates the heating or cooling systems and makes minor repairs.
  • Custodian IV duties may include supervising other custodian personnel.
  • Corrects minor safety hazards when observed and/or immediately refers all major safety hazards to building supervisor.
  • Follows all safety rules and regulations and uses prescribed personal protective equipment.
  • Maintains confidentiality.
  • Continuously improves processes.
