Job Description

Overview

The Hyatt Regency Newport Beach West, a 343 room, newly renovated, full-service hotel, with over 30,000 square feet of Banquet space, just blocks away from the John Wayne Orange County Airport, is seeking a highly experienced Director of Sales and Marketing to become a key contributor to the hotel’s Executive Committee and play a highly visible role with exposure to Senior and Corporate leadership. This exciting, and dynamic leadership position requires an innovative and proactive approach to sales generation while motivating and developing an experienced sales, marketing and events team.

Responsibilities

  • Direct leadership of the Sales, Marketing and Events team. Responsible for the Sales and Events Budget/P&L, revenue forecasting, developing and writing business plans and ownership engagement.
  • Handles recruitment and hiring of sales staff; training, managing and coaching sales managers in their selling process to meet company goals, and maximize hotel revenues.
  • Has the ability in training and monitoring both the group and transient contractual agreement process, quoting rates, sending referrals, setting traces and the management of retention, reactivation and acquisition accounts.
  • Develops pricing and market strategies and constant monitoring of competition and marketplace in general.
  • Monitors departmental, payroll and supply expenses in accordance with budgetary goals.
  • Is familiar with operating procedures of all other areas of the hotel, cooperating fully with those areas to assure customer satisfaction.
  • Develops, implements, and monitors the hotel’s sales strategy to achieve and exceed forecasted revenue targets in Rooms, Food and Beverage and all other revenue-generating departments.
  • Manages key sales accounts while developing strategies for pricing, inventory, and sales revenue allocation.
  • Builds and maintains strong client relations and develops accounts to increase market share across all revenue streams – locally, nationally, and internationally.
  • Prepares and executes annual marketing plan, promotion and advertising plans covering sales, food and beverage events, hotel promotions and media relations.
  • Meets or exceeds pre-determined booking goals for guest room revenue; meets or exceeds budgeted costs and revenue on a monthly average with the liberty to negotiate as needed on individual functions within established guidelines yet maintaining the overall revenue goals.
  • Compiles lists of prospective clients for use as sales leads based on information from newspapers, business directories and other sources.
  • Solicits new and repeat guest room and meeting business and maintains client base of key accounts and conventions.
  • Makes outside sales calls and Telemarket's to obtain business.
  • Completes coordination of the Sales group functions; accurate and timely preparation of detailed Sales Contracts and Group Resumes as necessary to ensure a common quality understanding of what the client is to receive in terms of products and services.
  • Prepares periodic sales reports and weekly activity reports to include all financial booking performance and personal call reports for active solicitation performed.
  • Reports directly to the General Manager performing other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Qualifications

6 years or more of progressive hotel sales experience. A minimum of 3 years as a Director of Sales and Marketing for a full-service property with a minimum of 300 guest rooms and a minimum of 20,000 square feet of meeting space. Hyatt experience a plus.

Ability to effectively interact with people of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds.

Proven track record in leading and motivating a Sales Team, improving the bottom line, and providing exceptional guest service.

Must possess excellent communication, presentation, organizational and time management skills.

Ability to use analytical data to create a sales strategy with a results-driven approach.

Strategic orientation with the know-how to problem-solve under pressure.

Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality Management or related area of study an asset.

Clear concise written and verbal English communication skills.

Proficient in general computer programs like Microsoft Office.

Knowledge of hotel programs i.e. Knowland Insight and Sales Management Systems an advantage

Orange County area work experience a plus.
