The Noatum Logistics Export Manager develops and maintains an efficient, cost-effective export operation. The manager measures plan to actual performance and develops and implements corrective action, as necessary. The manager develops and implements information and administrative systems to support export services and programs and trains and develops staff to achieve maximum efficiency and effectiveness.

The Noatum Logistics export manager develops a thorough understanding of clients' key business objectives, shipping requirements and freight movement patterns. The manager ensures client satisfaction through workload coordination and prioritization of support resources. The manager monitors key internal and client-facing metrics and defines strategies for continuous improvement.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage all levels of transportation and logistics solution services and activities for the export department.
  • Manage direct staff. Foster a participative work environment. Serve as mentor and role model for department personnel. Complete performance reviews for assigned staff, ensuring timely and accurate performance feedback is received on an on-going basis. Facilitate development and training activities for assigned staff, encouraging continuous learning and performance improvement. Interview and hire candidates to maintain appropriate staffing levels. Manage the performance of the organization/department.
  • Develop and direct export department team members to perform all assigned operations functions.
  • Ensure export documentation is accurately processed, distributed, and released to steamship lines, airlines, freight forwarders, customers, and agents in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate and lead team meetings disseminating company information, objectives, and client news to the team.
  • Develop the goals and objectives of the department to align with the Noatum Logistics vision.
  • Develop and maintain successful relationships with local vendors (e.g., steamship line representatives, airlines, freight forwarders, customs brokers, local pickup and delivery companies, regional trucking companies, line haul providers).
  • Monitor the department's effectiveness, ensuring customer needs and expectations are consistently met.
  • Monitor department's costs and performance.
  • Manage and oversee handling of selected key accounts based upon size and complexity of requirements.
  • Oversee, monitor, and actively manage key metrics and client margin factors while ensuring value proposition is being maintained. Target key accounts that need improvement and drive improvement actions. Determine carrier strategy to drive increased margin and minimize problems and issues with the account.
  • Participate in client business reviews as required and support Noatum Logistics continuous improvement efforts for internal processes and methodologies.
  • Develop and implement measures, standards, and operational processes to ensure high quality services for customers. Document processes and leverage training resources to implement best practices. Perform regular evaluations of results accomplished.
  • Implement continuous improvement plans and actions to ensure steady progress is made in export documentation, customer relations, rating, quoting, booking, tracking, and invoicing activities.
  • Support Noatum Logistics continuous improvement efforts for internal processes and methodologies.
  • Interact with and influences support teams (Procurement, Finance, etc.) to ensure business or processes are being served appropriately to meet key metrics.
  • Develop new business opportunities and participates in new customer implementation projects providing support as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with government regulations (TSA, U.S. Customs, etc.).
  • Ensure the accuracy of data and conduct accurate review and closeout of files.
  • Coordinate and assume responsibility for issue resolution among the various Noatum Logistics support teams to meet clients' needs. Coordinates with Procurement to select/ develop/ manage a network of carriers to meet the needs of the client and their customers. Engage team and support teams to deliver value added services for client in fulfillment of value proposal and contract.
  • Utilize performance improvement techniques and principles to continually improve solution services for client(s). Provide recommendations to client(s) for improving processes and work within established guidelines for implementing agreed upon changes.
  • Prepare timely shipment and department management information and reports as requested by management team or specified per department KPIs.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of clients' shipping requirements and patterns.
  • Define and deliver clients' expectation per Contract and Logistics Services Agreement. Adhere to all company and client(s) policies and procedures. Resolve conflicts through consensus-building techniques.
  • Help select, train, and develop qualified personnel.
  • Negotiate shipping rates.
  • Oversee the routing and rating of all export shipments booked.
  • Oversee the pick-up and transfer of shipments with appropriate partners.
  • Ensure compliance with Hazardous Materials regulations.
  • Ensure all export vendors meet service standards and provide Noatum Logistics with the best possible price and service. Adhere to established credit policies.
  • Treat proprietary information with the utmost confidentiality and maintain the security of computer systems.
  • Develop and maintain an office atmosphere conducive to continual growth of employees.
  • Maintain courteous, prompt, and efficient customer relations.
  • Establish and maintain all necessary procedures to assure a clean, properly organized, safe, and healthy environment for all personnel. Maintain all facilities and equipment in a good state of repair.
Minimum requirements
  • College degree in related field or equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • 5+ years of export operational experience in international transportation, preferably with an international freight forwarder.
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience or demonstrated leadership and project management skills.
  • Expertise in all facets of air and ocean export shipments and processes, including experience in complex shipments (out of gauge, dangerous goods).
  • Knowledge of state, federal and international applicable laws, and regulations (Federal Maritime Commission, Interstate Commerce Commission, U.S. Customs, environmental, import/export, maritime, human resources).
  • Strong customer relations skills with analytical and technical skills that can be utilized to produce creative ideas/solutions.
  • Effective interpersonal, communication, customer satisfaction, and presentation skills (written and verbal).
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks from multiple locations.
  • Demonstrated successful negotiation skills, including vendor pricing and customer negotiations.
  • Ability to collaborate and problem-solve with other departments.
  • Experience in developing processes and policies to meet customer and company needs.
  • Ability to effectively resolve customer complaints and problems and restore or maintain business.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills, including process improvement techniques.
  • Demonstrated analytical, business planning, and problem-solving skills. Ability to develop trend analyses and help build a baseline of information with respect to the clients' activity.
  • Ability to present client business review information through on-site meetings and formal presentations.
  • Ability to work effectively and lead team members in a business environment characterized by complexity, ambiguity, and rapid change.

  • Competency in PC, spreadsheets, and database applications (including Microsoft Office Suite).
Preferred Qualifications
  • 10+ years export operational experience in international transportation, preferably with an international freight forwarder.
  • CargoWise platform experience.
  • Certified Export Specialist (CES) certification.
