Job Description

A professional opportunity is available for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to provide essential communication support within a high school environment. This contract position spans the current school year, starting August 4, 2025, through June 6, 2026, servicing Hampshire and surrounding areas in Illinois.

Location:

  • In-person role based in Hampshire, IL, with responsibilities extending to nearby communities.
  • Position requires consistent availability during school hours, averaging 32.5 to 35 hours weekly, aligned with the academic calendar.

Key Qualifications:

  • ISBE Approval as a Sign Language Interpreter is required.
  • Candidates with an EIPA score of 3.0 or higher may qualify for temporary approval.
  • Proven experience in educational settings is preferred to support effective communication for students.
  • Strong knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) conveying nuanced educational concepts is essential.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate clear and accurate interpretation of verbal and non-verbal communication between educators, students, and staff.
  • Support classroom learning by ensuring accessibility for students requiring sign language interpretation.
  • Collaborate with teachers and support staff to adapt communication methods to meet student needs.
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold professional standards in all interactions.
